salmon,kahawai and game fish. A fisherman's paradise in any season. Day 1: Arrive
in Auckland
You will be met on arrival and transferred to the Hilton Hotel, recently
built on the Princes Wharf in the heart of the ' City Of Sails'. A 'bow' suite has been
reserved in this ship themed hotel, and reservations for dinner mean that you can relax
and recover from your journey.
Day 2: Auckland - Taupo
Journey south from Auckland to stay two nights at the renowned Tongariro Fishing
Lodge on the banks of the Tongariro River, which drains Lake Taupo to the south.
Its now over 100 years since the first trout fry were released into the Lake Taupo region.
Today it is one of the last true wild trout fisheries in the world. The trout here
are legendary for their condition and size.
Day 3: Taupo
Your guide will show you the best spot to fly fish the world famous
Tongariro River ( an estimated 750,000 trout swim up it every winter to spawn).
Day 4: Taupo - Rotorua
Visit the amazing thermal valleys of Waitapu and Waimangu en route to
Rotorua. Two nights at Solitaire Lodge on the shores of Lake Tarawera.
This lake lies at the foot of majestic Mt Tarawera and its sparkling clear waters are
fringed by native bush and sandy bays.
Day 5: Rotorua
Fish Lake Tarawera, known throughout the Southern Hemisphere for its trophy-sized rainbow
trout. Afterwards visit Hot Water Beach for a relaxing swim in the natural
thermal waters while your crew prepares a meal to be enjoyed on board your charter vessel.
Day 6: Rotorua - Lake Brunner
Fly from Rotorua to Hokitika, on the South Island's west coast then travel to Lake
Brunner. Among the freshwater fisheries around the world, the wild trophy brown trout
fishery of the South Island is famous. This is where the big and touchy monsters are found
-- in pristine environments surrounded by spectaclarly beautiful scenery. Stay at Lake
Brunner Lodge.
Day 7: Lake Brunner
Wild trophy Waiau brown trout are available here all year round, and in
various seasons you will also find kahawai and salmon.
Day 8: Lake Brunner - Waiau
Visit the unique pancake rock formations and blowholes at Punakaiki as you cross the
Southern Alps to the Canterbury plains. Your destination is Waiau, within easy reach of
the whales and dolphins of Kaikoura and the thermal alpine resort of Hamner Springs. Two
nights at Sherwood Lodge.
Day 9: Waiau
Combine the thrill of river jetboating with the excitement of sea fishing for
cod, trumpeter and kingfish, then explore some of North canterbury's best trout
and salmon fishing spots - areas accessible only by jetboat. Your host is a keen
fisherman and happy to exchange tips and tales.
Day 10: Waiau to Queenstown
Fly to Queenstown and then travel along the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu to reach Matakauri
Lodge. The 9 acre property is fully landscaped with rolling lawns, a meandering
stream, native New Zealand plants, and surrounding pine forest which create an atmosphere
of supreme privacy and enjoyment. Enjoy spectacular views from every suite. Stay two
nights.
Day 11: In Queenstown
Depending on the season you can enjoy high country stream fishing on the
Mataura River ( undeniably New Zealand's most prolific brown trout fishery), fly fishing
on the Kawerau River or trolling on Lake Wakatipu
Day 12: Depart Queenstown
Depart from Queenstown airport to connect with your outbound flight.
